Abstract

SPORTS EDUCATION AND TEACHING METHODS Associate Professor Ahmet ŞİRİNKAN1 - PhD Student Mete ŞİRİNKAN2 1. INTRODUCTION Sports education is essentially an educational program prepared and designed within the scope of physical education and sports teaching. These programs can be implemented with modifications aimed at different age categories (minis, stars, youth, etc.). Programs planned based on games for younger age groups are likely to have higher success rates. Sports education programs planned with a game focus can lead to faster success or development of participants depending on their basic competency levels (children in preschool ages who participate more in game activities and spend more time with peers in games and activities may develop faster in sports education). 2. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK Students in sports education programs participate as team members for longer periods (1 year, 2 years, etc.) than in regular physical education and sports programs. In sports education programs, experts such as captains, coaches, trainers, statisticians, team physiotherapists, nutrition specialists, etc., are involved. These experts perform studies and report at each stage of sports education as members of the team. They assume multiple roles and report to higher-level authorities (technical directors, managers, club management, etc.). Within sports education, social and physical requirements such as team names, uniforms and colors, and relationships among athletes are considered and formalized. 1 2 Associate Professor, Ataturk University, asirinkan@atauni.edu.tr, ORCID: 0000-0002-9642-9842 PhD Student, mete.sirinkan@outlook.com, ORCID: 0009-0004-1533-115X 1 Beyond Performance Contemporary Dimensions of Sports Science Three main objectives should be prioritized in sports education: 1. The objectives and goals of the sports club or sports activity 2. Planning theoretical gains such as education, technique, and tactics of the sports club 3. The goals of candidates participating in the sports education program
