As a result of continental-continental
collisions in the Eastern Anatolia region, shortening in the N-S direction and
thickening of the crust are observed. As a result of this crustal thickening,
the drilling costs of potential oil and geothermal studies in the region are
more costly. Therefore, the more the area can be narrowed in these studies, the
more savings can be made. Within the scope of this study, the region of Oltu
and its surroundings was evaluated with satellite-based Bouguer gravity data.
By evaluating the satellite-based Bouguer gravity data, the areas with density
changes in the underground in the region were determined. Thus, it will be
investigated whether these are caused by geothermal resources or by oil or by
an intrusion. Firstly, the tensors of the Bouguer gravity data were calculated
and then the gravity tensor invariant was obtained. When the findings obtained
as a result of the study are analysed, maximum values are found in the
invariant map in Oltu and its surroundings, especially near Olur Thermal facility
and Köprüköy Deliçermik hot spot. In Esendal village, which is located in the
N-NW of Yusufeli, it was seen in the reports of MTA that geothermal drilling
was carried out and maximum values were encountered here in our results. In the
future geothermal studies planned for Artvin or for this region, this method
can be applied first to determine whether there is potential or not. In
addition, these studies can be carried out with less cost by narrowing the area
studied. Increasing geothermal facilities for the region will contribute to
making it a very important regional attraction centre in terms of tourism.
