Çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Arşivleri Başkanlığı (DAB) Osmanlı Arşiv fonunda yer alan fotoğraf tanımlamalarında fotoğrafçı bilgilerindeki eksiklikleri belirleyerek fotoğrafçı bilgilerinin önemine dikkat çekip tanımlamaların iyileştirilmesine yönelik önerilerde bulunmaktır. Araştırmanın kapsamını DAB’ın çevrimiçi kataloğu olan Belge Tarama Sistemi’nde Osmanlı Arşivi fonunda yer alan fotoğraflar oluşturmaktadır. Tespit edilen araştırma problemi doğrultusunda çalışmada, fotoğrafçı bilgisinin tanımlama için önemine dikkat çekilerek, eksiklerin giderilmesine yönelik önerilerde bulunacaktır. Bu bağlamda çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi, elde edilen bulguların değerlendirilmesinde ise içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgularda, incelenen katalog kayıtlarında DAB’ın kullandığı üst veri elemanları arasında üretici unsurunun bulunmamasının getirmiş olduğu dezavantaj neticesinde fotoğraflara ilişkin önemli bir bilgi erişim unsuru olan fotoğrafçı bilgisinin kayıtlarda yer almadığı görülmüştür. Katalog kayıtlarında belirtilmeyen Abdullah Biraderler (Abdullah Freres), Phebus Efendi, Nicolas Andriomenos, Vasili Kargopoulo, Pascal Sebah, Krikor Derarsen gibi fotoğrafçı isimlerinin yapılan literatür araştırmasında fotoğrafçılık alanında oldukça önemli bir yere sahip olduğu ortaya çıkmaktadır.
The aim of this study is to identify the deficiencies in photographer information within the photograph descriptions in the Ottoman Archive Fund of the Republic of Türkiye Directorate of State Archives (DSA), to highlight the importance of photographer information, and to provide recommendations for improving these descriptions. The scope of the research consists of photographs in the Ottoman Archive collection available in the DSA Record Searc System, DSA’s online catalog. In line with the identified research problem, the study emphasizes the importance of photographer information for cataloging and proposes solutions to address the existing deficiencies. In this context, document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study, and content analysis technique was used to evaluate the findings. The findings reveal that the absence of the producer element among the metadata components used by DSA has resulted in a disadvantage, leading to the omission of a crucial access point—photographer information—in the catalog records. Furthermore, the literature review indicates that photographers such as Abdullah Brothers (Abdullah Freres), Phebus Efendi, Nicolas Andriomenos, Vasili Kargopoulo, Pascal Sebah, Krikor Derarsen, whose names are not mentioned in the catalog records, hold significant importance in the field of photography.
