A large field of study known as "biotechnology" involves using living
things, including cells, organisms, and processes in order to develop new
technologies. Various biological entities, including bacteria, fungus, plants,
and animals, are used in biotechnology to manufacture goods or carry out
industrial activities. The application of organisms, cells, their parts and
products, and molecular analogues for goods and services is the goal of the
multidisciplinary discipline of biotechnology, which integrates natural
sciences and engineering sciences. Biotechnology has led the path for higher
production, better product quality, and sustainable practices in a variety of
industries through the development of novel techniques and the manipulation
of live organisms. Biotechnology had a profound effect on a variety of societal
spheres, including environmental science, agriculture, and medicine. It has
numerous uses in the food, medicine and agricultural industries, as well as in
the creation of pharmaceuticals, medical technologies, biopolymers, and
environmental preservation.
Biotechnology is used in a wide range of techniques, and these uses
have produced useful products like new materials, biofuels, and life-saving
medications. In the modern world, it is a very advanced field that makes use
of cellular, molecular, and genetic processes to significantly progress and
improve general science.
This book contains chapters on different application areas of
biotechnology. Current studies on different fields of biotechnology, such as
the use of fungi and lichens in biotechnology, applications of microbial
pigments, microbiota, proteomics, plant biotechnology, polar microorganisms
and genotoxicity tests of biotechnological products, are included in this book.
By addressing the application areas of biotechnology from a basic perspective,
we tried to present many excellent topics identified by our colleagues.
The publication of this book was achieved by selecting individual
scientists for their expertise and excellent contributions to various fields of
research. We are very grateful to these scholars for their participation and
willingness to contribute to the book study. We believe a number of experts
in a range of academic and professional areas will find this book to be useful.
