Özet

In dentistry, which is a constantly renewing and growing discipline, many new developments can be applied in order to increase the success of treatment and patient comfort. For this purpose, low-level laser (LLL) applications have been widely used in periodontology. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) are used in clinical practice since 1988. Laser systems have bio-stimulative, regenerative, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects; and also can activate haematological and immune systems. The use of LLLT in periodontology may be beneficial in the treatment of periodontal diseases and in eliminating the side effects of treatment. It is shown in several studies that inflammatory, hard and soft tissue healing processes; postoperative pain and dentinal hypersensitivity therapies may be affected positively from LLLTs. Especially, the effects of LLLT on the initial periodontal treatment and periodontal surgery practice applications have been the subject of several investigations. Although there are various possibilities for the use of LLLT in periodontology there is no standardization and consensus about LLLT applications., In this review, benefits, limitations and the use of LLLT in various areas of periodontal therapy are discussed in the light of the literature.
