ABSTRACT
Novel carbon dot structures (CDs) was synthesized from kumquat by hydrothermal method. and these structures were characterized structurally and optically. The ion sensor application of these new CDs was studied using 20 different metals. Among all metal ions studied, CDs were found to be highly selective and sensitive only to Fe3+ ions, with a detection limit of 0.70 μM. Interference studies showed that the selectivity of CDs towards Fe3+ ions was not affected by the presence of any other ions. The usability of CDs to detection Fe3+ ions in real samples was investigated in tap water samples. We suggested that this new CDs, obtained from kumquat fruit without using chemical agents in one-
