Özet

Growth traits on 57 male lambs of the Morkaraman (Redkaraman) breed and the carcass characteristics of 15 lambs slaughtered at approximately 40.1, 44.8 or 49.5 kg live weight were evaluated. All lambs were fed concentrates ad-libitum, and 100 g of hay per lamb per day. In the three slaughter weight classes, the average daily gain was 255, 270 and 281 g, respectively, and feed conversion efficiency (concentrate consumption for 1 kg of live weight gain) was 4,41, 4.52 and 4.70, respectively. Corresponding weights for hot carcass were 20.3, 23.0 and 25.4 kg, respectively; for cold carcass were 19.6, 22.5 and 24.8 kg; and for dressing percentage were 50.6, 51.3 and 52.3%, respectively. The differences between slaughter weights for the hot and cold carcasses were significant, but not for dressing percentages. Most of the carcass characteristics were higher when lambs were slaughtered at 50 kg live weight than lighter weights. The results indicate that under intensive feeding male lambs of the Morkaraman breed produced desirable carcass at 40 kg live weight. (C) 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
