According
to the National Center for Health Statistics, chronic diseases are defined as
health problems that last for three months or longer, and by the World Health
Organization as long-lasting and usually slowly progressive diseases. In recent
years, chronic diseases have been included in the group of 'non-communicable
diseases' (NCDs). Again, as a summary indicator of public health, national
burden of disease studies also apply this classification. While the development
of diagnosis and treatment methods and the increase in the importance of
preventive health services ensure the prolongation of life expectancy and the
control of infectious diseases in many countries; The aging of the world
population, the stressors that occur as a result of rapid urbanization and the
changes in lifestyle such as the decrease in physical activity due to
developing technology and the change in eating habits cause an increase in the
incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases. During the disease process,
problems such as pain, burnout, deterioration in social relations, frequent
hospitalization for treatment and stress are experienced.
