Özet

Horseshoe Island has an area of approximately 72 km2 located in the Peninsula extension of the Antarctic continent. There are several large and small lakes on the island. The most known lakes are Col1, Col2, Skua and Zano Lakes. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the phytoplankton composition of Col 1 and Col 2 lakes. For this purpose, phytoplankton samples were collected from both lakes with a plankton grab in February 2023. A total of 13 species belonging to 6 groups were identified in Lake Col 1 and 27 species belonging to 6 groups were identified in Lake Col 2. Plagioselmis nannoplanctica, a member of the Crypotophyta group, was the most abundant species in Col 1 and Col 2 lakes. However, in Lake Col 1, the Cryptophyta group was the most abundant with 90%, while in Lake Col 2, the Cyanobacteria group was the most abundant with 58%. As a result, species belonging to nutrient-rich and small lakes were found predominantly in Lake Col 1, while species belonging to eutrophic lakes were found more in Lake Col 2.
