Özet

Originating from the ozan-bakhshi tradition of the Turkish civilization in Central Asia, the aşii{dotless}k tradition took shape in the Ottoman lands and has reached today. It has undergone some breaks, changes, and transformations throughout its historical course. The process of change and transformation at the beginning of the twentieth century led some scholars and researchers to deliver the opinion that the aşii{dotless}k tradition came to an end. Nevertheless, the recent process of change and transformation has been perceived as a change in the performance environment, rather than the disappearance of the tradition. As the poetic tradition in the aşii{dotless}k style came to be performed in electronic environment in the mid-twentieth century, the interaction between Western music genres and the aşii{dotless}k music has gained impetus. Following his education in the West, Barii{dotless}ş Manço turned to the sources of Turkish folk culture and reflected the characteristics of the forms, genre and melodies of the aşii{dotless}k literature in some parts of his works. This reflection is not simply a weak copy of the tradition. On the contrary, this aspect of his works in the form of "recreation" using images from the aşii{dotless}k literature made his songs popular for large masses who have taken pleasure in listening to them.
