The inhaled anesthetic sevoflurane which is a fluorinated ether derivative is metabolized to produce inorganic fluoride. The purpose of this study was to determine fluoride in urine of healthy volunteers and patients before and after sevoflurane anesthesia. Fluoride level in urine was analyzed using the F-ion-selective electrodes (FISE). It is simple and it does not require particular sample preparation for the tests. It is selectivity and high precision of determination. The limit of detection (LoD) and limit of quantitation (LoQ) of method were 0.15 ppm and 0.30 ppm, respectively. The mean analytical recovery of fluoride in urine was 99.50 +/- 3.55 %. The mean fluoride urine concentration of healthy volunteers, patients before and after anesthesia was found as 2.19 +/- 0.6 ppm, 2.56 +/- 1.3 ppm and 12.61 +/- 0.8 ppm / 24 h for females, and 2.13 +/- 0.8 ppm, 2.77 +/- 0.4 ppm and 11.18 +/- 0.7 ppm / 24 h for males, respectively. Fluoride level in urine increased with anesthesia.
