Smoke or fire on the aircraft during flight is dangerous and could result in catastrophe if not effectively handled by the crew. The Federal Aviation Act requires the use of fire detectors in aircraft cargo compartments B, C and E. Nowadays, there is a need for gas sensors besides fire detectors for passenger airplanes. Therefore, smoke detectors have gained importance in aviation. In this study, it was considered to use smoke detectors and gas sensors reacting to carbon dioxide in order to increase the detection reliability and alarm time in case of a possible fire. The screen-printing technique was used as the gas sensor production technique for the produced sensor, and titanium oxide and tin oxide were used as metal oxides in the produced samples. The samples produced were examined under the gases with specified gas detecting properties, and it was concluded that they can be used simultaneously with smoke detectors in order to increase the detection reliability and reduce the alarm time with the smoke detectors currently used in today's passenger aircraft.
