In this study, a conceptual framework of a research project supported by Atatürk University titled “Development and Implementation of Urban Usability Index” is presented. The long-term goal of this project is to be able contribute revealing the tourism value of cities and contribute to the promotion of cities as well. The special purpose of the project is to identify usability problems of touristic and cultural assets in the city of Erzurum in innovative ways and to propose solutions to these problems. The subject mainly wanted to be discussed here is creating a framework to be able to use usability elements (those in the current literature) within the context of urban space. Suggestions are made on adapting design-based, expert-based and user-based tests of HCI literature to the
architecture and the urbanism. In this context, “urban usability” concept is introduced as a new concept, and a framework is presented to be able to transfer usability to urban space.
