Özet

Plasma surface treatments are widely used in industrial applications. Plasma assisted surface treatments improve the wear, corrosion resistance and fatigue strength by the change at the properties of surface and near-surface region of material. The variety of surface treatment is too large for this chapter to cover all of them in detail. The scope of this chapter is limited on thermochemical processes assisted by plasma which have been widely applied by manufacturing sector in Europa, North America and Japan during the last two decades. These processes involve heating into the ferrite or austenite regions of a materials part in an environment that allows elements such as C, N and B to be diffused through surface of materials. Firstly, plasma state and glow discharge are given in this chapter and, then thermochemical processes assisted by plasma are explained in detail. This chapter is especially focused on compound layer formed during thermochemical process.
