Ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury occurring in the lower extremities causes damage to especially the extremities and many tissues. Since the studies conducted in recent years have shown that saffron and its components are effective in ischemic strokes, it was aimed to examine the effects of Crocin (Cr), one of the active ingredients of saffron, against the experimentally induced gastrocnemius muscle ischemia reperfusion injury. decreases in the Tnf-α, IL-6, IL 1β levels were significant in the Crocin treatment group according to the IR group. Our results showed that Crocin signifcantly reduced mRNA expression levels of IL-6 and IL 1β, increased SOD1, SOD2 CAT and GPx in the muscle of IR group. Our findings indicate that Crocin has prevent the against gastrocnemius muscle IR injury in rat and meaningful decrease the inflammatory parameters. These effects of Crocin may have been exerted primarily increased antioxidant enzyme activity, suppression of the production of free radicals and reducing oxidative stress.
