TURKIYE KLINIKLERI DERMATOLOJI, cilt.30, sa.3, ss.109-111, 2020 (Scopus)
ABS TRACT Herbal medicines are widely used for dermatological
and rheumatic complaints especially by elderly patients. Although the
effects and side effects of the products are not known exactly, the tendency
towards alternative medicine methods is increasing. A 66-yearold
male patient was admitted to our clinic with redness and wounds
on the knees after covering pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) due to
pain. The patient was diagnosed as irritant phytocontact dermatitis
was given antiseptic dressings and antibiotic cream, systemically
methylprednisolone, antihistaminic and antibiotic treatments. All lesions
were treated with postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. We
wanted to present our case because of the common use of such traditional
therapies in our country as well as the first case of irritant phytocontact
dermatitis due to M. pulegium in the literature.
