However, due to the decrease in water resources due to global climate change, it is estimated that one of the biggest problems of the last century will be water scarcity. Water scarcity is directly related to the ratio of usable water to the population. Today, the quality of water is very important as well as the amount of water. In this study, water quality of the Aktutan Pond feeding the Bahçecik dam meeting the drinking water needs of Gümüşhane province was investigated using the Hazen statistical method (HSM). For this purpose, water samples were taken from three different points of the Aktutan pond every month (except January) in 2016, 2017 and 2018.The parameters examined in accordance with international standards and using the HSM are as follows: pH, temperature, electrical conductivity (EC), color, dissolved oxygen (DO), chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), total organic carbon (TOC), nitrogen group, suspended solid matter (SSM), anion groups, oil–grease, phosphorus group, cation groups, hydrocarbons, methylene blue active matter (MBAM), cyanide (CN−), total pesticides, phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), heavy metals. The surface water quality of Aktutan stream was classified by the “Regulation on the Quality and Purification of Drinking Water Supply (RQPDWS)” and “Regulation Amending the Regulation on Surface Water Quality (RARSWQ)”. According to RQPDWS; PAH is in the A2 quality class. NO3−, F−, SO42−, Cl−, o-PO43−, CN−, Pesticide, Se, Cu, Zn, B, Co, Ni, As, Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg and Ba are in the A1 quality class. According to RARSWQ; NO3−, o-PO43− and Mn are in between I and II class quality standards. F− and Se are in I.class. TKN, NH3–N and oil–grease are in the III. class. PAH, Pesticide, Zn, B, Co, Ni, As, Cd, Cr, Pb and Ba are in the below the maximum environmental quality system value. CN−, Al, Fe and Cu are in the above the maximum environmental quality system value.
