Özet

The STEM education approach, in its most general form, can be defined as a teaching philosophy that

enables students to apply the theoretical knowledge they acquire in their daily lives and allows them to

use the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in an integrated and simultaneous

manner. STEM education has become an increasingly important and necessary field both in Turkey

and worldwide. In order for the STEM approach, which has developed in parallel with technological

advances, to be implemented more effectively in teaching programmes, it is crucial to evaluate its

strengths and weaknesses through scientific research and to make it more functional within the

education system. The aim of this research is to comprehensively examine all postgraduate theses

conducted in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in

Turkey. In this regard, studies related to STEM education in the Higher Education Council (YÖK)

National Thesis Centre database were evaluated using the document analysis method from qualitative

research designs. Theses obtained by searching using the keywords ‘STEM education’, ‘STEM

activities’ and ‘STEM applications’ during the data collection process were analysed using content

analysis. Findings indicate that the number of master's theses prepared on STEM education is higher

than that of doctoral theses. Additionally, it was found that there are more master's theses than doctoral

theses related to STEM education.
