Özet

This chapter provides a comprehensive framework for understanding culture and its relationship with cultural intelligence (CQ). It begins by defining culture, outlining its main characteristics and elements, and emphasising the importance of cross-cultural differences. Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions Theory and Trompenaars’ cultural framework are presented as systematic approaches to analyse cultural diversity. The discussion then shifts to the concept of intelligence and major theories, including Thorndike’s Multifactor Theory, Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, and Sternberg’s Triarchic Theory. Building on this theoretical foundation, the concept of CQ is defined, along with its development and core components: metacognitive, cognitive, motivational, and behavioural CQ. Furthermore, the role of intelligence theories in understanding CQ is examined, and the significance of CQ within the context of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is highlighted. Overall, the chapter sheds light on both the theoretical and practical implications of CQ at the individual and organisational levels.
