Özet

ABSTRACT. Paracetamol (Acelaminophen) is a non-prescription drug comrnonly

used fer antipyresis and analgesia. it contains a phenol ring, as does oestradiol, and an

acyl group as does progesterone. The aim of this study was investigation of the effects of

paracetamol on reproductiveand biochemicalparametersin male rats.

Material and Method: in !he study. 12 male Sprague Dawley rats aged eight weeks old

and weighted 250-300 gr, were used in this study. The animals were obtained from Atatürk

University Experimental Research Centre and housed in standard laboratory conditions.

Commercial pellet chow and fresh drinking water were avaitable ad /ibitum. Rats were

divided into two groups.ı. group (n= 6) referred as control group andphysiological saline 1

vıa oral gavage tothe animalsll.group (n=6) referred as Paracetamol (P) was injectedi

2mg/kg per os (p.o.) to animals. The treatment was performed for consecutive 7 days.i

The animals were tranquilized and sacrificedon 8"'day of study. Cauda epididymal semen,

samples and testes tissues were collected. Routine semen examinations were perforrned;

and oxidative stress levels oftesticular tissues were assayed. Reproductive organ weights\

[total testes weight (TTW} and total cauda epididymides weights (TCEW) }were recordedi'

Results: Our results indlcated that velocity of sperm ceils in P group was significanUyl

ıower when compared to control group. There were no differences in terms of dead spermj

rate, sperm density, total abnormality, ITıN and TCEW among ali groups. Maiondialdehyde:

{MDA) level of P group was significantly higher compared ta control groups. Furthermoıel

catalase (Cat), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione (GSH) levels in P group !

were lower compared to control group. :'

Conclusion: it was determine to effect of paracetamol on oxidanVantioxidant status iı

male rats. ··
