Electron paramagnetic resonance
(EPR) and optical absorption spectra of VO2+ and Cu2+
ions separately in 15R2SO4+50NH4H2PO4+(25-x)ZnSO4.7H2O+10CaSO4.2H2O
glassy system have been studied (x = 0.25, 0.50,…,2.00 and R=Na and K). The EPR
spectra consist of eight hyperfine lines characteristics of VO2+
ions. EPR spectra of all the glassy samples exhibit resonance signals
characteristics of Cu2+ ions. From the observed spectra the
spin-Hamiltonian parameters have been evaluated. The measured values of
spin-Hamiltonian parameters g and A for VO2+ ions indicate that
VO2+ ions in glassy system were present in octahedral sites with
tetragonal compression. For Cu2+ ions, the values of
spin-Hamiltonian parameters indicate that Cu2+ ions in glassy system
have octahedral coordination with a tetragonal distortion.
By using the EPR data and transition
energies obtained from the optical absorption spectra of all the glassy
samples, the molecular orbital coefficients have been evaluated.
