Özet
In this study, biomimetic surface structures were developed on Ti6Al4V alloy, inspired by hierarchical functional gradient organizations observed in natural biological systems. To create biomimetic surfaces, Ti6Al4V alloy was first subjected to vibratory peening at different Almen intensities, and then 45S5 Bioglass® or β-TCP bioceramic coatings were deposited using the electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method. Thus, the aim was to improve the electrochemical stability of the Ti6Al4V alloy, which is widely used in load-bearing implant applications, during long-term implantation and to enhance its corrosion resistance in physiological environments. The electrochemical corrosion behavior of the obtained biomimetic surfaces was evaluated using open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and cyclic potentiodynamic polarization (CPP) methods in Simulated Body Fluid (SBF). Increasing the Almen intensity affected the electrochemical corrosion behavior of the uncoated Ti6Al4V alloy and the most noble corrosion potential (Ecorr) of −565 ± 64.21 mV was obtained for the 30 A specimen. The electrochemical behavior of the 45S5 Bioglass® and β-TCP coated surfaces was specimen dependent, reflecting the combined influence of the shot peened surface condition and the characteristics of the bioceramic coatings. Among all the specimens, the 30ABg20 specimen exhibited the most noble Ecorr value of −153 ± 7.65 mV, indicating a shift toward a more noble thermodynamic tendency. Overall, the combined application of shot peening and bioceramic coatings deposited via EPD modified the electrochemical behavior of Ti6Al4V in SBF, a change that depended on shot peening conditions, coating type and deposition duration.
