Özet

A bio-derived graphitic carbon anode prepared from palm-tree branches was developed for sewage-fed microbial fuel cells without external microbial inoculation. XRD analysis confirmed formation of graphitic carbon with embedded crystalline KCl originating from biomass ash. The released KCl enhanced sewage conductivity, providing intrinsic electrolyte functionality without external salt addition. The influence of graphitization temperature, electrolyte concentration, and operation time on MFC performance was systematically investigated. The anode graphitized at 1000 °C exhibited the best performance, achieving a maximum power density of 763 mW/m2 at 6.25 g/L NaAc. Response surface methodology revealed significant interactive effects among graphitization temperature, substrate concentration, and operational time (p < 0.0001). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy demonstrated moderate charge-transfer resistance and diffusion limitations at the whole-cell level. The developed biomass-derived anode exhibited dual functionality as both electron collector and electrolyte source, providing a simplified and sustainable strategy for sewage-based microbial energy recovery.
