Özet
This study was conducted to determine the effects of different dietary levels of boron supplementation on the performance and some slaughter and carcass characteristics of broiler chickens. One-day-old Ross-308 male broiler chicks were used as the animal material. At the beginning of the experiment, the chicks were weighed and randomly allocated into four experimental groups consisting of one control group and three treatment groups. Each group consisted of 24 birds, divided into 12 replicates with two birds per replicate, resulting in a total of 96 broiler chicks. The experimental groups were fed diets supplemented with 0, 50, 100, and 200 mg boron/kg feed for 42 days under ad-libitum feeding conditions. The diets were formulated to meet the nutrient requirements of broiler chickens. Feed intake and body weight were recorded weekly throughout the experimental period in order to calculate FCR. At the end of the sixth week, the body weight of the B2 group (100 mg boron/kg feed) was significantly higher than that of all other groups. In contrast, body weight gain during the first and fifth weeks was adversely affected in the B3 group. During the third week, feed intake differed significantly among the groups (p<0.05). In contrast, highly significant differences in feed conversion ratio were detected during the first, second, and fifth weeks (p=0.008, p=0.001, and p=0.001, respectively). Regarding slaughter and carcass characteristics, significant differences were detected among the groups in final body weight, hot carcass weight, cold carcass weight, neck weight and breast fillet weight (p<0.05). In conclusion, supplementation of broiler diets with 100 mg boron/kg feed improved growth performance and certain slaughter and carcass characteristics, whereas a higher level of boron supplementation did not provide any additional advantage.
