Özet

Ilkhanete was a Mongol state that was founded in Iran. Ghazan Khan is known in history as the first great Mongol khan who attempted to introduce administrative, political and religions reforms to his empire. The conversion of Ghazan to Islam was one of the most important factors that accelerated change within an institutional and ideological context in the Ilkhanid state. The conversion of Ghazan was not only limited to a simple change of religion, but it also initiated the Islamization of the state and all its institutions. Ghazan's conversion eliminated the incompatibility between the Ilkhanid government and loyal subjects. With Ghazan's conversion, Islamic values took part in the life of the Mongols and it led to the abandonment of the Mongolian traditions and customs. In Ghazan's life some of the attitudes that are incompatible with Islam can also be observed. Therefore, Ghazan's conversion should be evaluated within its own context.
