Diabetes mellitus, a primary disorder of carbohydrate metabolism, is a metabolic disorder in which various complications accompanied with hyperglycemia are seen. Among the complications of the diabet, hyperglycemia, retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, orthostatic hypotension, hypoglycemia, the delay in wound healing, macrovasculary diseases (cardiovasculary diseases, cerebrovasculary diseases, hypertension), gastroparesis (nausea-vomiting), diarreha, neurogenic bladder and susceptibility to the infections are among the complications of diabet. The dentists should have enough knowledge about diabetes mellitus, they should get prepared possible conditions, necessary periodontal treatments should be certainly made. In this review, necessary treatments and recommendations in order to maintaned periodontal health and findings besides oral and common findings of the diabet have been suggested.
