COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE OF IDENTITY AND NARRATIVE TRADITIONS IN UKRAINIAN AND TURKISH FOLK TALES

Özet
Abstract. The article analyzes Ukrainian and Turkish folk tales through the comparative perspective of identity and narrative traditions. The main focus is placed on the behavioral models of characters as markers of cultural specificity. The study applies a comparative approach using the concept of the “cultural pattern” as an analytical category of intercultural communication and folklore studies in combination with the theory of cultural memory. The research identifies common behavioral patterns, such as the fox’s cunning, hospitality, and the “stepmother–tepdaughter” opposition, which are realized through culturally specific scenarios reflecting the peculiarities of national identity. In the well-known tales Pan Kotskyi and The Widow Fox, gender initiative within the marriage pattern serves as a marker of differences in traditional gender perceptions. The typological analysis of the narratives reveals stable distinctions in character systems, spatial and temporal markers, as well as traditional opening and closing formulas. These narrative features demonstrate that universal motifs are implemented through culturally specific forms that accumulate the historical experience and social structure of each people. Through the study of characters’ behavioral models, the article attempts to integrate identity studies and cultural memory research into the comparative analysis of Ukrainian and Turkish folk-tale material.
