In this study, it was investigated the effects of salt (NaCl) stress on germination and
seedling development in varieties of wheat (Triticum aestivum cv. Bezostaya), tomato
(Lycopersicon lycopersicum cv. H55711), bean (Phaseolus vulgaris sp. sphearicus) and
maize (Zea mays cv. Hido) cultivated in some zones of Turkey. For this aim, it was
determined germination ratio and speed, fresh and dry weight, root and shoot length, and
salt tolerance index in the plants completed germination and seedling development at
different salt concentrations (0, 75, 150 ve 250 mM). Our results showed to be different
the salt stress tolerance of the plant varieties studied. In addition, it was significantly
inhibited the germination and seedling development in all of the varieties as depending on
the increasing salt concentrations, and observed that the maize had the highest tolerance
while the tomato had the lowest sensitivity in the plants according to the parameters
studied.
