Abstract:

This research has investigated whether there is a relationship between demographic characteristics of families with mentally retarded individuals and disabled people, economic and social needs of families and economic and social problems of families. The population of the study consists of families with mentally retarded individuals who benefit from home care services at Palandöken Social Service Center. In the light of the results of the study, the problems and needs of families with mentally retarded individuals are determined throughout Turkey and it is thought that they will contribute to the determination of social services and social policies suitable for families. In addition, it is possible to say that family counseling and family education programs will be more effective in order to support families' needs and problems in order to support families economically, socially and psychologically.
