Abstract:

Aim: The aim of this research was to determine the effect of different acupressure treatments applied to hand in labor on endorphin levels and perception of labor pain. Material and method: The study was designed as randomized controlled experimental study. The population of the research consisted of primipara pregnant who applied for labor between April 25, 2019 - October 31, 2019 both the university hospital and the state hospital of a province in the Black Sea region. The sample consisted of 140 pregnant among 228 pregnant randomized between the dates determined. The research was carried out with three experimental groups including hot treatment, acupressure and cold treatment and a control group and 35 pregnant women were taken to each group. Data were collected using "personal information form", "labor intervention follow-up form", "VAS " and " VCS ". The data were evaluated with SPSS 20.0 package program. While evaluating the data; Number, mean, chi-square, ANOVA, repeat measure analyzes were used. Results: Pregnant women included in the study showed homogeneity in terms of obstetric and demographic characteristics. When III. VAS measurements of experimental and control groups were examined, it was found that the cold treatment acupressure group was 8.92 ± 0.90, the acupressure group was 9.36 ± 0.97, the hot treatment acupressure group was 8.83 ± 1.11, the control group was 9.88 ± 0.31, and the difference between the groups was statistically significant (p = 0.00). When III. VCS point averages of experimental and control groups were examined, it was found that the cold treatment acupressure group was 4.68±0.52, the acupressure group was 4.68±0.47, , the hot treatment acupressure group was 4.51±0.70, the control group was 4.82±0.38 and the difference between the groups was statistically insignificant (p = 0.11). When the endorphin averages of the experimental and control groups were examined, it was determined that the mean post-test scores were increased in the experimental groups. In addition to this, the statistical difference was found to be insignificant between groups but significant within the group. Conclusion: When the experimental groups were compared with the control group, acupressure applications were found to be effective in reducing birth pain. It was found that interferences in experimental groups increased endorphin level especially in hot applied acupressure.
