Özet:

This thesis, titled “Night Banquet Painting Based on the Study of Color in Surviving Samples from the Khamsa of Tahmasbi”, aims to connect traditional Persian miniature painting with contemporary Iranian art. Persian painting has distinctive characteristics shaped by the cultural and aesthetic perspectives of its people, preserved with minimal changes throughout history. Among various schools, the Qizilbash (or Second Tabriz) school of the Safavid era stands out, particularly for its innovative use of color. Colors in Persian miniature painting carry symbolic meaning, reflecting human emotions and spiritual states, and their combination is considered a form of alchemical art.

This study uses a comparative-analytical approach to examine the colors and structure of the Night Banquet illustration in the Khamsa of Tahmasbi. The Qizilbash school is notable for vibrant, carefully composed colors that convey symbolic and emotional effects on the viewer. The thesis is organized into five chapters: the first introduces the research problem, objectives, and methodology; the second explores literary representations of night banquets in Persian literature; the third presents the Khamsa of Tahmasbi, Mir Sayyid Ali, and the Night Banquet painting, focusing on architectural and compositional features; the fourth analyzes the painting’s structure and color usage; and the fifth provides discussion, conclusions, and a presentation of a contemporary artwork by the author inspired by the analysis of the Night Banquet.
