Biography
Ali
İhsan Pala was born in 1963 in village of Özdere in the Oltu district of
Erzurum. He completed the primary school in his village, secondary and high
school in Erzurum İmam-Hatip High School (1983). He worked as an imam-hatip for
a while in the Directorate of Religious Affairs (1983-1988). Meanwhile he
studied at Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education, Department of French in
Ataturk University for a year (1987). In 1988 October, he left the faculty and
went to study Theology in Egypt/Cairo. He enrolled in the Islamic Law
Department of the Faculty of Islamic and Civil Law at the Azhar University in
this country. He completed his memorization of Quran during his undergraduate
education. On the other hand, he took private fiqh, logic and usûl-u fiqh lectures
apart from the faculty. He graduated from this faculty in June 1992. In August
1993, he was appointed as a Research Assistant to Van Yüzüncü Yıl University,
Faculty of Theology, Department of Islamic Law. He completed his master's
degree at the same university with his thesis titled Beyân in Terms of Fiqh
Method. He completed his PhD at Atatürk University Institute of Social
Sciences, Department of Islamic Law with his thesis titled Interpretation of Order
and Prohibition in Islamic Law Methodology. In January 2009, he was appointed
as assistant professor, then as vice dean. In October 2009, he was appointed as
an assistant professor at Atatürk University Faculty of Law, Department of Law
History. He received the title of Associate Professor in 2011 and was appointed
to the Chair of Islamic Law of the same faculty on December 26, 2011. Between
2011-2014, he worked as a lecturer at the Islamic Law Department of the Faculty
of Islamic Sciences of Qatar University for three years. He held various
academic and administrative positions. He submitted papers and discussions both
National and International scientific symposiums. He served on associate professorship exam
juries at universities in various countries such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and
Yemen. He returned back to Turkey in July 2014 and was appointed in December
the same year Atatürk University Faculty of Theology faculty member in the
Department of Islamic Law. He was appointed as a professor in 2016. He still
continues this duty as the Head of the Department. Pala, who has published
books and articles in various scientific journals, is married and has four
children and speaks Arabic and French.
