Biography

He was born in 1969 in İspir district of Erzurum. He completed his undergraduate education in 1993 at Atatürk University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Archeology and Art History, Classical Archeology Department in 1989. In the same year, he started his master's degree at the Social Sciences Institute of the aforementioned university in 1995 with the thesis on "Grave Steles in the Adapazarı Museum". He completed his doctorate at the same institute with the study on "Lions of the Ionian Region", which he prepared in 2003.

In 1995, Meral became a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Archeology of the same university, Assistant Professor in the aforementioned department in 2007, and Assoc. Dr. was appointed as Professor in 2021. During this period, he served as a Department Internship Committee Member (2010-2015) and Faculty Scientific Research Projects Committee Member (2010-2013), Department Program Coordinator (1996-2019), Senior Advisor (1998-2019) and Deputy Head of Department (2010-2020). Meral worked as the Editor of the Journal of the Faculty of Letters in 2021.

Meral, who continues his duty in the Department of Archeology, Classical Archeology Department and served as the Deputy Head of Excavation between 2006-2020 during the excavations in the city of Kyzikos, located in the Düzler neighborhood of Erdek district in Balıkesir, is married and has two children.
