He was born in Ispir district of Erzurum in 1969. He completed his undergraduate education in 1993 at Atatürk University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Archeology and Art History, Department of Classical Archeology in 1989. He completed his master's degree in 1995, which he started at the Institute of Social Sciences of the aforementioned university in the same year, with a thesis on "Grave Steles in Adapazarı Museum". He completed his doctorate in the same institute in 2003 with a study on "Ionian Lions".
Meral, who was a Research Assistant at the Department of Archeology, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, at the same university in 1995, Assistant Professor in 2007 and Assoc. Dr. was appointed as a Professor in 2021. During this period, he served as a Member of the Department Internship Committee (2010-2015) and a Member of the Faculty Scientific Research Projects Commission (2010-2013), Department Program Coordinator (1996-2019), Chief Advisor (1998-2019) and Deputy Head of the Department (2010-2020). Meral has been working as the Editor of the Journal of the Faculty of Letters since 2021.
Continuing his duty in the Department of Archeology, Department of Classical Archeology, Meral, who has been working as the Deputy Head of the Excavations in the ancient city of Kyzikos in Düzler district of Erdek district of Balıkesir since 2006, has been working in the field of Classical Archeology.
