Adapting School Burnout Inventory to Turkish Culture: Study of Validity and Reliability

Özet

The purpose of this study is to carry out the translation and adjustment of school burnout inventory developed by Salmela-Aro, Kiuru, Leskinen and Nurmi and to investigate the psychometry characteristics of the scale. The scale, in its original form, is 5 point likert scale type tool consisting of 9 items in there dimensions. The study group of the study is 570 students who are studying at primary and secondary schools located in Erzurum city center. After the interpretation process, in order to achieve the language validty, the opinions of experts have been sought. For the construct validity,, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis have been carried out. It is ascertained that there is a three dimensional structure accounting for %66.858 of total variance. The agreement of this three dimensional structure has been tested with confirmatory factor analysis, and foud out that the fit index are in good degree(RMSEA=.042, RMR= .013, NFI=.90, CFI=.96, IFI=.97, RFI=.92, AGFI=.90, GFI=.92. These sub-dimensions are emotional burnout, indifference and the feeling of low individual success. As a result of the reliability analysis of the scale, the internal consistency parameter has been found to be a=.75, and the reliability of test-retest as a=. 80. In accordance with the findings acquired, it can be said that school burnout inventory is a scale that has reliability and validity
