Özet

The prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes (DM), one of the most common non‐communicable diseases in the world, is increasing day by day because of reasons such as unhealthy nutrition, obesity, physical inactivity, and an increase in life expectancy at birth.According to 2017 data of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), 425 million people have DM and this figure is expected to increase to 629 million in 2045 worldwide. The teach‐back method is an interactive communication strategy in which the healthcare professionals check their understanding by asking patients to repeat what they need to know or do in their own words. In case of a lack of information or a gap in the teach‐back method, repeating the information may help to increase the knowledge levels. With this method, healthcare professionals can determine how much information the patient has learned and which parts they cannot remember or understand. In the teach‐back educational method, information is repeated until the patient's shortcomings on the subject are corrected. On the basis of these findings, our study aimed to evaluate the effect of the teach‐back educational method on diabetes knowledge level and clinical parameters in type 2 DM patients undergoing insulin therapy.
