Prof. Mehmet Fikret ARARGÜÇ

Biography

Professor Mehmet Fikret Arargüç was born in Erzurum in 1971. After completing his primary and secondary education in Germany, he graduated from Erzurum Anatolian High School in 1989. Growing up in a bilingual and multicultural environment played a formative role in shaping his academic outlook and intellectual perspective.

He received his BA in English Language and Literature from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Atatürk Üniversitesi between 1990 and 1994. Following his graduation, he began his academic career in the same department as a research assistant and completed his MA at the Institute of Social Sciences in the Department of English Culture and Literature.

In 2002, he earned his PhD with a dissertation entitled “Rudyard Kipling and Kim in the Light of Colonial and Imperialist Discourse,” an in-depth study of Rudyard Kipling’s novel. He was appointed Assistant Professor the same year, promoted to Associate Professor in 2018, and subsequently attained the rank of Full Professor.

Since 1994, Professor Arargüç has pursued his academic career in the Department of English Language and Literature at Atatürk University, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in English literary history, poetry, literary criticism, literary theory, and cultural studies. His research spans British, American, and Turkish literatures from a comparative perspective, with particular emphasis on literary and cultural studies, postcolonialism, magical realism, ecocriticism, and dystopian fiction. His scholarship integrates contemporary theoretical frameworks—such as transhumanism, posthumanism, and new materialism—with close textual analysis.

Between 2017 and 2022, he left the university to undertake diplomatic service as Education Attaché at the Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye in Essen, Germany, where he represented Türkiye in matters of education and cultural affairs and played an active role in educational policy coordination and cultural diplomacy. He subsequently served as a National Education Specialist at the Ministry of National Education’s Directorate General for European Union and Foreign Affairs. In 2022, he returned to Atatürk University and continues his academic career there as a professor.

He is the author and editor of several scholarly books and has published extensively in national and international peer-reviewed journals, contributed to edited volumes, and presented papers at numerous academic conferences.

He is married, has three children, and is fluent in English and German.
